Kantha embroidery of Bengal is regarded as one of the oldest forms of embroidery. Originating from India, one can trace its origins back to the pre-Vedic age (prior to 1500 BCE). It evolved from the thrift of rural women, who saved and used scraps to embroider elaborate quilts of rare beauty and skill. Traditionally, old cotton saris, lungis and dhotis, which had turned incredibly soft through wear, were used to make kanthas, with the thread for the stitching drawn out from the fabric itself. Nothing was wasted!

This pillow is hand-stiched from handloomed fabric. It measures approximately 16 x 16 inches, with a high quality down-alternative removable filler.

This item is handmade, with vintage, hand printed, hand woven, and/or hand dyed fabric. There will be slight differences, and tiny flaws that would not appear on a mass produced item. If there’s ever a problem, please contact me. I’m always happy to work out an exchange or return if you are unsatisfied.
